Solitary bone cysts are non-malignant fluid-filled cavities found primarily in the long bones such as the femur and tibula.

In severe cases, solitary bone cysts may lead to pathological fractures. The incidence is estimated at less than 1 case per 10,000 of the general population per year in Europe and the US. The vast majority of patients are pediatric.

Current treatments for solitary bone cysts include bone grafting, intra-lesion corticosteroid and bone marrow injections. Since these methods require multiple applications and show only limited efficacy, a simple and effective treatment of solitary bone cysts represent a high medical need.
